Happy Canada Day: North Vancouver Style!

Happy 142nd Birthday Canada!

Celebrations in North Vancouver took place at Waterfront Park. The weather was perfect, the entertainment was great, and the politicians cut cake!

North Vancouver MP Andrew Saxton summed it up best telling the crowd that we live in an amazing country!

North Vancouver-Lonsdale MLA Naomi Yamamoto and MP Andrew Saxton.

District Mayor Richard Walton, MP Andrew Saxton, and North Vancouver-Seymour MLA Jane Thornthwaite cutting cake!

Wendy briefly had an imaginary interview posted here.
Thanks Barry for making an obviously faked post vanish.

What was the crazy Wendy post all about...do tell.

The posting was about an interview with Blueridge slide victim, Mr. Kuttner.

An imaginary posting? Perhaps. There was nothing imaginary about what happened to Mr. Kuttner. Does he not deserve his story published here if it were his wishes? Ms. Qureshi mentioned several times she was going to have an interview with Mr. Kuttner and I doubt she would have done it without his consent.

Barry, Can you tell us why you removed the post? Was it legalities?

Wendy is NOT a journalist. If she wants to publish imaginary "interviews" with people, than she start her own blog.

I'm glad to see somebody else posting photo galleries!

Good pics too!

And on what basis do you conclude or presume that it was "imaginary"? Did you read the post?

You know, there's just a few too many bloggers (or maybe it's the same blogger repeating themselves) on this site that say, "start your own blog". We are here to discuss, are we not?

And what do you mean "she is not a journalist"? How many of those who post are? Barry may very well be the only "journalist".

I spent Canada Day (and a strange one it was, with seemingly half the town working at their regular jobs) trying to reconcile the Canada that I grew up in with the country whose mean-spirited government leaves citizens stranded or jailed in middle-east countries.

I tried to find the place where our vision of ourselves as a caring country meets the Centre for Policy Alternatives report (two paragraphs buried on B6 of the Globe and Mail) telling us that EI:

“offers relatively little income protection” in terms of access, benefit duration, and income replacement levels compared with other industrialized countries, and compared to Canada’s unemployment insurance systems of previous years.

I can remember the glory days of Trudeau and Expo 67, when Canadians were genuinely proud of this country, and of its leaders. I just don't see that any more.

Andrew Saxton may believe that we live in an "amazing country" but I'll argue that we used to, but that that country is long gone.

I removed the post. I shouldn't have posted it in the first place. I can't believe that people have noticed it. It was only on for about 1 minute. I was setting it up.

I clicked the wrong button. Period. It should not have been posted and it will be posted when Michael gives me the OK.

There are rumours that North Van's Gary Hee will run for the BC Conservative Party with news that leader Wilf Hanni has resigned in a huff.

Nice pictures Barry.

The parade in NV City had more entries than usual, a larger crowd of North Vancouverites out to see the parade and a grand crowd at Waterfront Park.

Flags, Balloons, face painting and wonderful local talent.

A great Canada Day!

The parade in the City of North looked a little weaker than last year, I didn't see many of the regulars. By the list on the site even with the no shows and the blank spaces, there was less.

Maybe the new Vancouver took some of the entries. Waterfront was excellent and should be continued.

Why doesn't the parade go the Waterfront?

Politicians riding parade floats down steep hills. That's something I'd like to see.

They could march with the troops.

And thankfully "the glory days of Trudeau" are gone. Unfortunately, the damage he did is not.

Thankfully, Wendy's "interview" exploitation piece was pulled after many irate comments. A new low was reached by her yesterday.

Interesting but not surprising that there has been no apology from Wendy for her recent post that clearly stepped over the line, far beyond offensive and definately way, way, way over the top. Not only does that horrible woman lack complete common sense judgement, but she is also incapable of apologizing when she has done something completely morally wrong and in very poor taste.

Leave it to Wendy to ruin Canada Day for everyone.

I suppose for different values of "ruin" - for myself I had a really good Canada Day particularly as the day coincides with a family birthday and it was fun to wish her another year.

(Since it's HER day around our household she gets to dictate the day and all told it went pretty well - thanks to Chuck Chamberlain though no thanks to the CNN on Chuck's TV!)
