Jane to have evening with Stockwell Day
Jane Thornthwaite MLA, North Vancouver-Seymour has a scheduled evening with the Hon. Stockwell Day and other guests. Tuesday, October 23rd 6:00 pm at Holiday Inn, 700 Lillooet Rd., North Vancouver
Sunday morning without this blog would be like pancakes without the syrup......(sip coffee)..so I hear there might actually be a glimmer of a two way race in NV-Seymour. The NDP has a credible candidate running.
Jane does a really good job. She is out in the community all the time. However, she is a BC Liberal, and as such doesn't have much of a chance of being re-elected. The tide has changed. North Vancouver - Seymour received well over the 15% needed signatures against the HST. These people will not be voting Liberal.
Kudos to Jane for trying to put a stop to bad breeders and puppy mills, but she doesn't really set a good example. I recall reading that she owns a 'doodle', which is the result of a breeder intentionally crossing two breeds (usually Labradors or Golden Retrievers) to sell trendy 'mutts' to gullible people. If she rescued her dog, fine, but if she purchased it from the breeder she is supporting the very industry that she is supposedly against.

With respect... are you nuts? 60.59% of North Van Seymour supported the HST in the referendum. Most of them will still be voting BC Liberal.
It's not good enough to check out the above link. Elections BC is supposedly non-partisan, but that didn't exactly work during the anti-HST campaign. They are Liberals.
The anti-HST campaign and petition was successful at forcing a referendum on the Provincial Government. That referendum took place in the summer of 2011. Gordon Campbell accepted the results and subsequently resigned from office.
Are people really this uninformed about the very public referendum that took place? This is beyond disappointing. And the resident conspiracy theorist really ought to get some help.
Given that this was one of the most significant acts of public disdain in BC (and even Canadian) history, I am absolutely amazed that Anons 12:12 and 12:58 seem to have missed it. Do you guys live in a cave, or do you not read newspapers or watch the 6pm news? Or perhaps you only just returned to Canada after a 5-year sojourn somewhere else? In any event, there has been lots of (well-deserved) griping about the fact that the HST will not come to a timely death until March 31st, 2013. Who else believes as I do that the long march to annihilation was to give the government time to recoup the money they have to repay the Feds????

Griffin, while I agree with you, I don't believe our current government has any intention of repaying the 1.6 billion out of the HST collected. This debt will be left for the new government to deal with.
What isn't mentioned in the original post is that this is a fundraiser for Jane to help pay for her re-election campaign...you gotta pay if you wanna play!
Personally, I would prefer that another candidate take her place, but since the Liberals protected incumbents, if you want to keep out the NDP in Seymour at least, she's the only option...because I highly doubt that the Conservatives can get themselves together enough to mobilize forces by next May.
And John, as to your last post, I believe it has more to do with the Provinces fiscal year-end and much less to do with the timing of an election. I think there are much bigger goodies that will be trotted out by the Liberals in a last-ditch attempt to be re-elected. Like cancelling the toll on the new Port Mann Bridge, for example!
There is no question that the liberals will promise the weak-minded "much bigger goodies" in an attempt to regain their seats. If elected, they will again have a majority and will renege on election promises.
We've seen this scenario in all three terms when Gordon Campbell was elected Premier. The HST was his downfall, because obviously a large number of British Columbians understand the "Fool me once ... Fool me twice ..." bit, that forced his resignation.
It will be interesting to see how gullible voters will be in the next election and if again they take the fall.
The liberals have done their damage; leaving us in such colossal debt that we will have no other choice than to sell out our Province to foreign governments and corporate interests. They can then rape and plunder as they please and without concern for "The Best Place On Earth."
Yes, it's always good to clean up one mess before creating another. What makes you think the NDP will be any better? Don't you remember the mess they made of it the last time they were in? Short memories abound on this board.
I don't believe it's prudent to compare the current NDP with the past. Look at their membership, many young folks are onboard and face it, we need to get rid of the BC Liberals.
The current NDP will have to show me that it isn't the old NDP. Young folks have always been supporters of the NDP. I don't think there's any real change in their base. If they can prove to me that they'll give equal treatment to the private sector and not pander to the unions, I'll listen. Until then, I've been bitten too many times by their disregard for the private sector to trust them.

Most people I talked to witnessing the anti-HST signatures were not voting Liberal in the near future.
My campaign buddies were told the same.

Jane Thornthwaite originally accepted responsibility for her DUI. She spoke at length about her mistake.

It will come to a stop when the NDP is elected in May.
When the NDP forms government they will be too busy cleaning up the mess left by the liberals.
