North Vancouver Politics.com goes with Google Account option

The decision to go with the Google account option is a compromise and is the middle ground on the anonymous comment issue. The other option was Registered ID only. The Google account option is still a very anonymous setting for those concerned about identity. All you have to do is have a gmail account and use any name that you want that is available.

Just go to  https://www.google.com/ to set up a gmail account.

Cool! Now Google can track all of our North Van commentary and send us advertising based on what we say!

I've always been in the 'no pseudonyms' camp - they tend to lead to a more mature conversation.

At the same time I am perhaps naively hopeful for a change in our representatives in Nov 2014 - I do think particularly in the District things have been too static for too long and a few new faces would be a breath of fresh air.

A low voter turnout is a very bad thing for society but this is what happens when people see their viewpoints trashed by the powers that be - North Vancouver needs a few more Howard Beales! (click the link if you're forgotten the reference)

Well, Lyle, you will probably get your wish with two incumbents already stating their intentions to retire in 2014 and another one (or two) likely to join them. A bit of a watershed moment in municipal politics, what?
