Wow! Quite the video. I watched the whole thing. I was at the Mayors' Meeting at Centennial Theatre just before the 2014 election and saw the chicanery that was going on there. George Pringle was passing out "nasty" defamatory information about Kerry Morris as "fact." This same thing was done in the DNV by a Mr. Douglas Curran regarding a DNV council candidate Hazen Colbert.

Mr. Morris is correct. We have lost our democracy. It's all about big money.

On a sunny Friday afternoon there is utterly no way I'm going to watch a half hour video about alleged North shore election issues.

For that matter, it's rare for me to watch a video about any subject that could be better presented on paper - in written words.

Video is great for cats, but lousy for factual information.

Anyone have a transcript that I can skim?

After someone transcribes the entire video for the convenience of one person could we then have it translated into Swahili for the convenience of the Swahili speakers? Talk about entitled.

If you care at all about the two North Vancouvers I think you should spend the 1/2 hour and watch this video. I guarantee you will not be bored.

Are you suggesting that people who don't agree with Mr. Morris' opinions don't care?

Anonymous said...

How do you know if you don't watch the video?

I'm not a fan of videos either but in this case.. it is worth watching and then verifying. A lot of 'interesting' things are claimed and if I lived in the City of North Vancouver, I might well be writing to demand the firing of more than one City employee... after I verified what was being said.

There are facts to back up everything Kerry Morris alleges, and the facts are in the video. I'm sure he'd be glad to provide the full emails etc if you ask him. It's very disconcerting to watch the 29 minutes, no fanciful fillers there - just statements of fact. The drawbridge is now closed to City hall, they have their 4 votes on Council and are doing exactly what they want (or have been told to do). There is no democracy at all - and it's almost impossible to get an answer to anything. People involved should be impeached or fired. Powers that be have also made it near impossible to speak at public input - life would be so much easier if they didn't have to deal with the public. Pam Bookham is probably the one true independent Councillor and long may she stay strong in the face of the bullying from the Mayor.

I am told by a few people in the "know" that support for the BC NDP is way down. Perhaps because of the fact that Craig Keating is the President and operates as Councillor in the CNV a little too far away from NDP policies and accountability standards.

Anon 4:53 Pm,
How very insightful even if it didn't originate from you. I guess Mr. Sahota had a little more credibility, perhaps because of his background etc I attended the NDP convention that elected a new NDP leader last year and there wasn't much to choose from. Keating was there with his polished act and the 'other guy' wasn't much more palatable either. I don't know what the NDP are thinking, but in North Van. other than municipally of course they are'nt very popular AND is being in bed with the developer what the NDP really want? Because that's what's happening here.

If you are a taxpayer in the City and have concerns this is
worth the watch.

@Bill Bell HorrorScope

Kerry lost the election. Winner, Mussatto.

You lost too as a candidate for the Liberal Party of Canada in 2000. Winners Conservative Ted White and side kick George Pringle.

The one noticeable difference between you and Kerry is that you had the common sense to walk away from the scene in 2000, going so far as Mexico.

Kerry's common sense?? Sour Grapes is always on display.

Kerry needs to show the world his positives not HIS misconceptions of the competition's 'negatives'

Anonymous said...

These are not "misconceptions" of the competition's negatives. These are facts which are adequately backed up.

Anonymous said...

There you go again Anon 10:00a.m., negativity.

Adequately?????? (if the shoe fits)
"as much or as good as necessary for some requirement or purpose"

Positives, always promote your candidate, not bad mouthing all others.

Positive eg.
An every day quote from Kerry could be something like this:

I'd make it illegal to shoot lions with a long bow in the City of North Vancouver

I'd arrange to have an 11 week election landing on the 11th day of the 11th month

And what would you say if you were a candidate, and not just an incoherent mouthpiece?

Anonymous said...

Great post, but just to be picky, shouldn't the word be "damning"?--with an N.

Anonymous said...

It appears that Mr. Bell is not monitoring his post.

Mussatto's actions were very unethical and very dirty, but maybe not illegal. On the other hand, the city clerk's actions were illegal - even if she was directed by others of what to do (or directed what not to do) in terms acting on inquiries around elections act infractions.

She had a fiduciary duty that she knowingly did not perform. Her actions should be investigated, and she should likely be fired.

Special Committee on
Local Elections Expense Limits Final Report
June 2015

Expense limits for candidates

..... A number of written submissions proposed flat-rate amounts. Sharon Shepherd from Kelowna, a former candidate for mayor and councillor, noted that more and more money is being spent on campaigns and that expense limits are needed to provide opportunity and a level playing field for all candidates. She suggested that limits in Ontario were a fair approach to local elections.

Marsha Henderson from Victoria, a former candidate, believed that $5,000 should be an acceptable limit for expenses for a municipal election in an area of 80,000 to 100,000 voters. She also suggested that municipalities should pay for the cost of one brochure of candidate information, since mailing costs are often the largest portion of a campaign expense.

Kristian von Schalburg from Richmond suggested an expense cap of $20,000 for a council seat and $40,000 for mayor. In his view, it is much healthier for democracy if more candidates are willing to compete for council and mayoral positions. .....

No kidding.
Corruption! As usual.

The NDP Govt has made it illegal to donate more than $1200 to one'e own campaign. Bye Bye Kerry Morris for Mayor in 2018. He won't be able to try to buy the Mayor's Chair again.
