It’s basically all about who “owns” all those non-sanctioned/illegal
MTB trails that have been proliferating like legendary unfixed rabbits on the
North Shore for the past umpteen years.
It’s about what happens when an over-entitled self-interest group
gets far too much undeserved political clout, support and funding than they
deserve, that they feel they have the right to lord it over others, both inside and outside of the MTB community. Rewards like this will not do
much to change the inherent scofflaw behaviour of these mountain bikers.
It's litigious! After all, the mountain biking community has decided to air
its dirty laundry on a very public mountain biking website forum, making it

So what is this? The North Shore Cycling Blog?! There's an election campaign going on folks! Why are there no topics to discuss that?! We get it, the North Shore is anti-bike and anyone who rides a bike is the devil incarnate. Enough! Let's get onto a topic that impacts all of us!
Let's make it an election issue:
The Federal government had a big hand in funding the NSMBA's mountain biking trails on our North Shore a couple short years ago. They are also funding destructive off-road mountain biking inside our National Parks.
Plus, destabilized watersheds impact us all on the North Shore.
1. Agree that a politics blog should have a thread discussing politics during an election.
2. Anon 10:44. The posts on cycling are all to do with cyclists behaving responsibly. There wasn't a single post that carried the overblown nonsense stated in your post.
I've been observing mountain bikers and mountain biking for a couple of decades. In all that time, what stands out most is mountain bikers' selfish attitudes. They act as if they own every park, and have the right to do whatever they want to there. This will end soon, as the public wakes up to what is happening to their parks, and who is responsible for the damage.
I wonder why the North Shore News has been so silent on this issue. It is pathetic to think that it is because of their affiliations with the politicians who condone this travesty.
Because it's only news to the uptight folks who can't handle sharing the trails (or their street parking) with anyone who doesn't live in their neighbourhood. This is NIMBYism, disguised as a concern for the environment, pure and simple.
Do you mean the very small special interest group called the mountain bikers who are ruining our forests? And...we are paying them to do it and facilitating their scourge.
The forests were ruined generations ago. This is a recreation area adjacent a major city. If you want pristine forest you're gonna have go further than your back door. That's a simple fact. If you don't like all that comes with living in a major city, you might want to rethink where you live. Especially if you can't learn to share the trails with other users.
Conflicts in the forest are growing. It's mainly because of the selfish entitlement of the mountain bikers.
For instance, on the BP Trail, a multi-use trail, where mountain bikers have to YIELD to hikers -- we have a mountain biker telling people how he taught a family of hikers a "lesson" (from the same "War of the Woods" threadpost):

This isn't NIMBYism coming from other "on foot" forest users. This is what happens when a freewheeling scofflaw group gets rewarded too much entitlement inside our forests by foolish land managers who are afraid to say "BOO!" to the bikers. Rarely do I see a mountain biker dismount, or make way for hikers. It is always the hikers who seem to step aside, or dive into the dead fall. This is why the conflict is growing and why this sport must be corraled on our North Shore.
More interesting is the actual silence coming from the mountain biking community and their supporters on the topic of the original post. Too hot to handle?
The comment from anon 8:46 pm sounds exactly like something our illustrious concilil Councillor Bond would say. In other woods the forest is no good anymore, which is a pile of bull , so let's contiinue to abuse it in whatever way we want. The ecosystems and biodiversities don't matter. We live in this big city here so let's just trash it. What a load that is! It's all the more reason to take care of it. Thanks Mr Bond!

You are clearly failing to see the humour in this MTB theatre of the absurd, Anon.
I fail to see humour in any kind of NIMBYism disguised as a concern for the environment. I've been here long enough to know that this is all about Mocreals dislike for "outsiders" using her road to access a recreational resource that belongs to everyone. It's also an knee-jerk reaction to a few bad apples, which seems to be an overriding theme with posters to this blog. People need to focus on the majority of people who know how to share the roads and trails and stop obsessing over the minority of idiots (who are equally represented by all user groups).
Go do your battle with the E-powered mountain bikers and Strava MTBers who are taking over, and don't cry about them damaging your beloved mountain bike trails. That would be considered most hypocritical. You would just beome another kind of NIMBY, if you won't share your trails with the motorized freewheelers in the woods. Let's see how that turns out... Vroom! Vroom!
It is funny how mountain bikers (NSMB.com) are now saying the exact same things about E-MTBs on the trails, as hikers and conservation/environmental folk did several years ago about pedal MTBs on the trails, and still are. I find it rather amusing... don't you? You can't battle a Sherman tank with water pistols...
This is on a present local MTB forum discussion about E-MTBs:
"I hope we can nip this trend in the bud before it becomes a problem."

Actually I don't mountain bike on the trails. I just hike and walk my dogs. So don't assume that just because I have no issues with mountain bikers (or any other user who is respectful toward others) that I'm a member of their organization.
Every user group has its bad apples. Let's concentrate on culling those, rather than demonizing everyone with the same brush. That sort of attitude benefits nobody. And while the infighting and finger pointing continues, so does that bad behaviour by a few.
Cull the NSMBA. A rotten apple in the barrel spreads its rot to the rest.
There's room for "culling" in every user group. Don't place all the blame of the cyclists.
The NSMB.com has removed the thread posts on the litigious topic, "due to collateral damage." As one MTBer put it aptly:

and another MTBer, ironically, stated:
"better to air your dirty laundry out in the open where everyone can see it."
Should we laugh or cry? The many sins of the mountain biking "community" will continue to leak out of the NSMBA "gold dirt" bucket full of holes... Guaranteed!
It's only going to get a whole lot worse with E-MTBers battling for room on the trails, now. Call it MTB karma. An interesting article on the subject...
