West Vancouver-Capilano MLA Ralph Sultan Endorses George Abbott

Ralph Sultan was on CKNW's Bill Good show this morning talking about the HST.  At the end of the interview, Good asked Sultan who he was supporting in the BC Liberal leadership race.  When asked why he was endorsing George Abbott's leadership bid he pointed to five criteria, but said it was the fact that Abbott has "met a payroll and run his own business...and in building character and common sense there is no better training."

“Ralph has been an outstanding representative for his constituents in West Vancouver-Capilano since 2001,” says George Abbott. “He has several decades of professional experience at the most senior levels of business in the resource and financial sectors. I’m honoured that he has chosen to provide me with his support.”

The CKNW conversation can be heard through the radio's stations audio archive, when the question was asked at 9:27am:

Sultan joins 16 other BC Liberal Ministers and MLAs who have put their support behind George Abbott’s candidacy for Premier.

Well now, for starters, I'm not so sure that Abbott should be crowing over the support of Kash Heed! A barge pole might be more useful and he should use it to distance himself.

Secondly, from what I understand, people in the Province - the run-of-the-mill everyday voters - are showing a wide preference for Clark. With so many of the Liberal MLAs supporting George Abbott, it pretty much confirms my theory that they are completely out of step with the electorate and don't really know what's good for their own party. With Abbott, I think they will blow their chance at re-election, especially if the NDP chooses Farnworth (which I think is likely).

Abbott wasn't all that enthusiastic about Heed's support which was given the day before the latest bombshell.

Me - I'd love to have half an hour with Wally Oppal strictly off the record to hear what he REALLY thinks about the whole Heed affair!

Well, now, it's sure hard to be modest after seeing the Global TV poll come out tonight showing that most everybody in the Province is supporting Christie. Maybe party members are smarter than cabinet ministers and will vote with their brains...

And also on tonight's news, Heed has been "re-assigned" in terms of Abbott's campaign. No kidding.

How can you be so sure in light of the Global TV poll which was completely unbiased? Sounds to me like you're out to lunch - or that you drank it.

On the suggestion of an another blogger, I have provided a link to the Federal North Vancouver NDP candidate on the main page. Seemed only fair as The Conservatives and the Liberals both have a link.

The more links the better John!

I heard on the news this morning going in to work that Naomi Yamamoto has endorsed George Abbott.

I thought Abbott badly discredited himself when he said he was dead in the water if the proposal on voting rules didn't go through on February 12th.

It's one thing to say that privately amongst one's own supporters but quite another to say it in the mass media.

I was solidly for Abbott with Clark my #2 but at this point am really undecided.
