I picked up mine today at City Hall. Darryl said he wanted someone to run so he would not be acclaimed again and now he's got an election this time.

Anonymous said...

Oh, bru-ther....

Stephanie V said...

Sorry, I got bogged down with the misspelling of 'Received' on the DNV link.

Anonymous said...

I hope someone will run against
the present Mayor someone with
some Develop mental skills!!!
The City doesn't need all this
C.U>P>E. backing

John Sharpe said...

I don't quite get the whole "Darryl said he wanted someone to run so he would not be acclaimed again". Sounds like Daryl wants to make himself look more legit by having a token challenger.

This is in no way meant to discredit the integrity of Mr. Pringles interest in running for Mayor of the City.

Anonymous said...

George Pringle Mayor??? What a joke.

John Sharpe said...

Both City and District need 'new blood'.

Anonymous said...

"new blood" doesn't necessarily mean better.

Anonymous said...

Too bad George doesn't have name recognition so probably doesn't have a chance. Also too bad that Don Bell isn't running for Mayor, he probably would have a chance and may have been a change for the better. Maybe stopped the union domination anyway.

Anonymous said...

Michael Charrois has filed papers to run, is running with Darryl's NDP slate?

Anonymous said...

These were endorsed in September by the Labour Council, so would presumably be Darrell's slate, except that I don't think Amanda wants to be there so probably won't be advertised with them:

Mayor

■Darrell Mussatto* - Independent
Council

■Juliana Buitenhuis - Independent
■Craig Keating* - Independent
■Cheryl Leia - Independent
■Amanda Nichol – Independent
■Mary Trentadue* - Independent
School Board

■Chris Dorais - Independent
■Susan Skinner* - Independent
■Steve Stringfellow – Independent

Robin Hicks on the DNV board, but not online, yet.

Anonymous said...

Missing Barry Forward on the DNV picture board....??? Not very accurate...

Anonymous said...

Is Barry running for Council? School Board candidates would not be posted on the DNV or CNV sites.

John Sharpe said...

Barry is definitely running.

John Sharpe said...

I have a question for Mr. Pringle; First of all congrantulations on running and wanting to serve your community. My question is; What is your position on Amalgamation? Do you support it or do you not?

I believe this will be a big issue/buzz-word in this election.

Anonymous said...

Sue Lakes Cook is writing a lot these days and a front pic in the Province. I hope she runs for CNV Council.

Unknown said...

Hi John,

Thanks for pre-election question. I will campaign on three priorities.

One will be to propose a full program review with the aim of cutting total spending, not just a zero increase to the tax rate.

In this area, I would commit to proposing a referendum question in next election asking our citizens to agree to an amalgamation with the DNV according to a few conditions, such as the new municipality would elect a Mayor and 4 Councillors from each side. The DNV would have to ask the exact same question.

As the City will be passing the 50,000 person mark, it must conduct a referendum to keep to the size of the Council at 7, just as the DNV had to do. The province should agree to let us conduct an amalgamation referendum instead.

The supporters of the status quo use places like Toronto or Ottawa as proof that amalgamation doesn't reduce costs but it's more than apples and oranges, it's comparing apples and a side of beef. If we used the Toronto model, all of the lower mainland would merge with 2 Councillors elected in each Provincial riding. Ottawa merged 15 municipalities.

We would not be doing anything close to that level.

Anonymous said...

What? Ottawa merged 15 municipal ridings. Please explain to us. What happened? and when?

Unknown said...

Ottawa started just before I moved there and was put in place not long after so was probably took effect in 2001. Just checking, it was "Ottawa was merged with 10 area municipalities and the Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton to create a new city also called Ottawa. Embraced in the new city are the former cities of Ottawa, VANIER, NEPEAN, KANATA, GLOUCESTER and Cumberland; the townships of Rideau, West Carleton, Goulbourn and Osgoode; and the village of Rockcliffe Park. "

The problem was that the civil servants took control of the process and it was decided that whatever union contract in an job area. So, all firefighters were paid at the highest rate of paid of all the municipalities. What saving from eliminating redundancies was spent anyway.

If we were to do an amalmagation in order to save money, then we have keep our eye on the ball

Congrats to George Pringle for his leadership in taking on Mussatto and the Big Money CUPE/NDP tax-raising, left-wing agenda of Darryl Mussatto and his cronies. George, please expose the CUPE slate for what is as part of your campaign. Thank you for giving us all an alternative to vote for.

Break the Slate said...

WARNING: These NV City candidates were endorsed in September by the Labour Council, as the NDP/CUPE slate.

Mayor: Darrell Mussatto - NDP/CUPE slate

Council:

Juliana Buitenhuis - NDP/CUPE slate
Craig Keating* - NDP/CUPE slate
Cheryl Leia - NDP/CUPE slate
Amanda Nichol – NDP/CUPE slate
Mary Trentadue* - NDP/CUPE slate

School Board:

Chris Dorais - NDP/CUPE slate
Susan Skinner* - NDP/CUPE slate
Steve Stringfellow – NDP/CUPE slate

Do NOT vote for the above list of candidates. BREAK THE SLATE!!!

Anonymous said...

I'm no supporter of the unions but what's with the bloody tea party rhetoric? Come on folks, we're better than that.

Anonymous said...

They were actually endorsed as independents, see previous posting

Anonymous said...

Most of the candidates will be running in the unregistered NDP municipal party but none all those endorsed are in that "slate".

Darryl Mussatto

Juliana Buitenhuis
Michael Charrois
Craig Keating
Cheryl Leia
Mary Trentadue
will all appear on the same newspaper ads and leaflets.

Anonymous said...

What do the candidates and citizens and current councillors of North Shore think of the removal of the fire boats from the North Shore waterfront?

Anonymous said...

I see on the DNV site the candidates' email addresses and website addresses are on top of each other so neither are legible.

Typical DNV brilliance!

Anonymous said...

Teaparty? Is that the new Canadian smearword if you are politically centre and don't want union dominated civic councils?

Anonymous said...

How did it happen that Michael replaces Amanda in this list?

sue lakes cook said...

I was not going to run, but now that I see George Pringle is running for Mayor, I think that I must take my papers out to run in the same position. Based on the last time I ran, it would appear that no one can bring out that nasty side of George like I can and it is a side I think the public should be truly aware of.
I have kept copies of all of your postings George and I can't wait to share them.
Sue Lakes Cook

Anonymous said...

There are two things.

Those endorsed by CUPE which last time was Mussatto, Keating, Schechter, Neilson, Clark, Leia and Trentadue but the local NDP slate did not include Clark and Neilson.

NV Parent said...

I see CUPE has its list of candidates in place for the School Board(Dorais,Skinner,Stringfellow) to ensure its union gets everything it wants out of our precious few education dollars. Who will put our kids first above the interests of the big money unions? Are there no decent NV City candidates running for School Board? Is Mary Tasi seeking re-election? Is John Jenson going to run? We need good people such as Tasi and Jenson -who are independent of the labour unions- to advocate for our children.

Anonymous said...

Pringle and Lakes running for mayor will guarantee Mussatto keeps his seat.

Anonymous said...

Ooooh, CNV politics will be much more exciting than DNV politics this election. More jousting promised. Less DNV type back patting. Sigh.

Anonymous said...

"Pringle and Lakes running for mayor will guarantee Mussatto keeps his seat. "

Lakes is left of the Mayor so will cut into his vote.

Anonymous said...

This is getting sadder by the minute, and will ensure that Darrell will be able to tell people he got in with a huge majority I think. I seem to recall nasty stuff between George and Sue before this, how sad.

North Van Poltical Junkie said...

Can somebody name names of who all is running in the City of North Van, other than those CUPE-sponsorsed bafoons? Bookham, Heywood, Clark and Fearnley all better be seeking re-election or we'e doomed. Can someone confirm these incumbents are running again? Hopefully, adding Don Bell to the mix will take out Trentadue or, even better, Keating.

Anonymous said...

These are filed as of Oct 7:

BELL, Don

BOOKHAM, Pam

CHARROIS, Michael

NICHOL, Amanda

SOSTAD, Ron

Anonymous said...

The best way to "break the slate" would be to vote for a group of independent candidates that care more about serving the community than serving CUPE. We can only hope that Heywood, Clark, and Fearnley get their nomination papers in tout suite along with Bookham and Bell who appear to have already filed.

Anonymous said...

I will encourage my friends who live in the CNV to vote for you Sue.

Your anti-TransLink buddy.

George, you are a class act. You have my vote. Sue, it is time for you to call a truce with George. You have both matured over the years.

George S. Pringle said:

Boy, would I love to reveal what I know about you but I learned it in a way that I have to keep confidential."

The above is the most offensive (out of many nasty things) that George Pringle decided to post about me. I consider it to be a threat and as such, I would really worry about someone like that being in a place where they would be able to access information on others. Do you really trust that others may not also be threatened in this way if George decides he does not like them, or their point of view? Are they going to called "wing nuts" if they go before council and ask a question which George does not consider to be suitable?

Please define CLASS because I do not think this could ever apply to George.

Sue Lakes Cook

Anonymous said...

Doesn't seem very offensive.

Response seems a bit over the top.

Anonymous said...

Is this from the days when fake Wendys, Georges and Sues where all over this blog?

Anonymous said...

Sue, people change. What George wrote about you today on his blog deserves some recognition of his maturity as a blogger. If you want to obsess about a blog post from 2005, then fill your boots, but don't expect anybody else to care and please don't waste the voters time by running for Mayor simply to talk about your ancient archive of blog comments. We have bigger issues to care about.

We look forward to tho Darryl and George debating those important issues and we welcome you to join in that debate as an additional candidate. But, if you simply want to talk about yourself and spew your anger at George, then you are better off sticking to this blog rather than hijacking the mayoral election campaign for some sort of personal obsession with George.

sue lakes cook said...

Do you honestly think your remarks would be accepted by the public if you actually were an elected official? Can you imagine Darryl calling someone names or threatening them with some dark deep secrect he has on them?

I will not support Darryl because he is being mainly backed by special interest groups such as CUPE members and developers so I really do not believe Darryl or those on his slate are going to represent me.

You have proven yourself George, to be a person with no problems with verbal abuse in a public forum, so why should I or anyone else feel you are representing me?

Please do not give me garbage about maturity and change, as every woman who has ever been in an abusive relationship knows, leopards do NOT change their spots.

If you want issues, I can promise you I will deliver them, I can also tell you people will be upset and angry with me. I also know I do not have a hope of hell of being the Mayor of the City of North Vancouver, but neither, do you.
Hopefully there will be others that will run for the position of Mayor and I hope it will be someone with NO history on this blog.

Sue Lakes Cook

Anonymous said...

... and any guy identifying an abusive and irrational woman avoids them like the plague.

Anonymous said...

Just curious, and this is a serious question, is any kind of psychiatric assessment required before a person can run for Mayor?

George Pringle for Mayor said...

You mean people can pretend to be other people on blog? Shocking!

Anonymous said...

If the goal is to challenge Mussatto, there needs to be a display of cooperation. So far only George exhibits taking the high road. Sue, you'll ensure vote splitting and the City will continue down the same road.

Anonymous said...

Psychiatric assessment?

No, you have every right to vote or not vote for anyone that can cobble together enough people to sign the nomination papers.

Anonymous said...

Lisa Muri has left out a very important part of her nomination papers. She has failed to disclose that she is receiving remuneration from the District of North Vancouver for being councillor.

sue lakes cook said...

I rest my case. I said all I have to do is put my name out there and the true George (along with all of his "anon" personalities would come shining through!!

Sue Lakes Cook

Anonymous said...

Why has Guy Heywood not filed his papers yet??? He is the best member of Council we have ever had. Where is Guy?

Anonymous said...

Well George Pringle and all of his "anonymous" friends will be very disappointed to know that I am not, and quite frankly, never intended to run for Mayor or any other position at City Hall.

I am very sad however, to see someone like George who, instead of fighting issues would rather fight personalities. To see someone who would use threats:

George S. Pringle said...

Boy, would I love to reveal what I know about you but I learned it in a way that I have to keep confidential.

lies:
"Big NO to Sue Cook, I don't see her as a good loose cannon aka Ernie Crist but a bit of a wingnut. At the first all candidate's meeting she consistently asked "I wish someone could explain this to me" and "I really don't understand this." For someone on their second run she is really out of her league."
"Oh and Sue, the "help help I'm being oppressed" whine is even beneath your usual level of political ability"

Pringle also liked to make comments suggesting that I have mental health issues (I have always publically let it be known that I do suffer from depression.

I do not believe that Pringle is capable of taking the high road, rather he will play the part to get what he wants.

I do not have too much use for Darryl as I feel he is too interested in representing the Developers and CUPE members, but I believe he has 100% more decency, and respect for people then Pringle has in his little finger.

I will be holding my nose and voting for Darryl (unless we have a surprise like Heywood decides to run for Mayor)

Sue Lakes Cook

Anonymous said...

I can't see why your opinions would be any more important than those of anyone else.

I'm not even sure that they're as important as those of everyone else.

Anonymous said...

Is Guy Heywood a surprise candidate for Mayor? What's going on with Guy?

Anonymous said...

In the City if the random name selection puts Counc. candidate Glen Miller at or near the top of the ballot, name recognition will be a dead ringer for him. At least with the older set, who wouldn't vote for a name like that? :)

Unknown said...

Guy is running for Council but as of last Friday was away on a business trip.

The random order on the ballot was voted down.

It is likely a third person will be running for Mayor.

Anonymous said...

Oh well, in the District where it was voted for, Roger Bassam and Holly Back could be dissapointed.

North Van Political Junkie said...

Here is the Dream Team. Spread the word!

City of North Van Council:

BELL, Don
BOOKHAM, Pam
CLARK, Rod
FEARNLEY, Bob
HEILMAN, Joe
HEYWOOD, Guy

Fight Darryl's CUPE/NDP slate by electing the above group of candidates who are ALL independent from King Darryl. Circulate this list to all your friends and neighbours!

Anonymous said...

Did the Council vote to tell Fearnley to vote for the 2% gas tax and the increase in property taxes for Translink?

BELL, Don
BOOKHAM, Pam
CLARK, Rod
HEILMAN, Joe
HEYWOOD, Guy
NICHOL, Amanda

PRINGLE, George as Mayor
if I like the details of what he has said in his candidate statement

Anonymous said...

There are other independent candidates running, not my idea of a dream team. Up to 19 candidates for Council, 3 for Mayor!

Anonymous said...

Looks like DNV is a dead duck for most part as CNV political scene is just hopping! Who will surely take the reins if "Amalgamation" becomes the word on the street -- CNV, hands down! Not the apathetic District. We will be seeing Walton once again at the helm, wreaking more mayhem and wasted dollars. And same lame names? Gawd help us all :>(

Anonymous said...

Pam Bookham
Rod Clark
Amanda Nichol
Catherine Pope

Will vote these 4 for sure!!!!
Surely can find two more that
would be consistent and not backing
Darrel with every decision he makes
I will have a look at all other
candidates not backed by CUPE.
I am pleased Mayor, is not by acclamation!

Anonymous said...

VOTE FOR:

BELL, Don
BOOKHAM, Pam
CLARK, Rod
FEARNLEY, Bob
HEILMAN, Joe
HEYWOOD, Guy

This group has the best chance to break the slate of Darrel Mussatto.

Anonymous said...

Fearnley needs to learn to be more responsible with my tax dollars before he ever gets my vote. Thanks to him, gas just got more expensive.

I want a slate that isn't in the pocket of CUPE and Translink.

Anonymous said...

Yes, Fearnley must go. He is self-serving and at the trough. Glen Miller may be a better candidate because of his IT background

Anonymous said...

I actually like Bob but he was the swing vote that allowed Darryl and Darryl's NDP cronies to go on a taxpayer-funded junket to Japan.

For the record, Rod Clark, Guy Heywood, and Pam Bookham tried to stop the junket, but Bob supported Mussatto, Keating, and Trentadue's efforts to screw taxpayers during some very tough economic times.

I will still vote for Bob, but I will never forget or forgive what he did on the Japan junket issue.

Anonymous said...

I guess you enjoy being screwed by Bob. I don’t so Bob is out

Anonymous said...

Think that was China, to use the provincial $$. Still our money, Bob likes to travel.

Anonymous said...

Bob was the swing vote many times supporting the NDP slate. Why does he not just run with them?
