District of North Vancouver DRAFT Transportation Plan ... your chance to provide input

The DNV has a draft transportation plan now available for public review and they asking for feedback on it.

DNV Tranportation Plan

The idea is to accept feedback from the public until the end of March and then revise / finalize it. Once finalized the plan will guide transportation (car, bus, bike, walking) in our district and neighborhood for many years to come.   Any concerns or feedback on it should be raised now.

The District of North Vancouver only listens to the 21% that decided to vote -- their friends.

The Transportation Plan will be staff around billboards and there will be zero public input.

Check it out.

Does the DNV really pay attention to the electorate?

The glossy brochures that we pay for say no.

I filled in the survey and there seems to be quite an emphasis on creating more room for cyclists on arterial roads. Now I ask you, with a steep grade (for bikes) on many north-south routes, an aging population and at least half a year of questionable bike weather, why would they even consider taking two lanes away from Capilano Road and turning them over to cyclists? Lunacy! If you agree, then tell them. They have to listen to SOMEone!

I also filled in the survey online and I live in Lynn Canyon, because they left out Lynn Valley as an option.

I live in one of those secret caves under Twin Falls.

I would really appreciate it if someone would tell me how to view a council meeting live.

I heard about caves in Lynn Canyon.

Agree with Anon 4:47. Also filled out the survey and certainly don't want road width sacrificed to bicycles.

The Council meetings are usually on Monday nights at 7pm at District Hall (355 W Queens Rd). Regular Council meetings don't occur every week, so you need to check the website www.dnv.org, or call 604-990-2311. On the website, on the right hand side, scroll down to Council Meeting Information, and click on "Agenda and Minutes". Due to the spring break, the next regular council meeting is not until March 26th.

Stick a fork in it, this blog is done. John, time to wrap it up and let it die or pass it on to someone who's going to actually do something with it.

Speaking of transportation, really support the idea of basing a vehicle levy on vehicle engine size/fuel consumption.

Big gas guzzling SUV's should pay more than a small econo box. The use up more road space, are more damaging to road surface through weight, take up more parking surface etc.

Bicycle licenses and insurance for road users at one end and big vehicle transit levy at the other with transit users actually paying their fares through user gates.

It's a start.

Soccer moms should pay double.

Nope, just good old users pay. Crazy concept, no free ride.
