The Blog is looking for some answers

With the Federal election coming up within the next year, who are the candidates in North Vancouver? And in North Burnaby-Seymour?

Has Mike Little actually been chosen or just nominated as the Tory candidate for NB-S? (If he was it didn't get much Press). With the current controversy over Kinder Morgan's possible pipeline expansion in Burnaby Mountain in this riding, should we be asking Mr. Little's what his position is? Or for that matter any candidate who will be running there?

According to the snail mail Andrew Saxton is trying to not go away.

Who are the Liberal candidates?

Who are the NDP candidates?

This link from the NSN will answer some of the questions.

Former Judge Carol Baird Ellan, NDP, will be a formidable opponent for Mike Little.

You can go to http:\\burnabynorthseymourconservative.ca to see that Mike Little is indeed the nominated candidate for the Conservative Party.

What? Jim Hanson isn't running?

More seriously, I'm honestly baffled why Andrew Saxton keeps being re-elected.

I cannot recall ever hearing an original idea come from his mouth, just recycled bits of PMO Press Releases.

In fact aside from photo ops I can't recall seeing or hearing him do anything*.

And he is by all reports(and judging from my experience) absolutely abysmal when it comes to the sort of nuts and bolts constituency work that most MPs consider to be their job.

I have to ask, is this really the best that North Shore people can expect from elected officials?

Entirely ignoring what party you may support, can you really say that Saxton is doing an adequate job in representing our community?

* Yada yada shipyards. If you honestly believe that Saxton had any influence over that decision I'll sell you the Second Narrows Bridge.

I agree with you, Barry! Saxton is useless, but he doesn't rock the boat and that's precisely what Harper wants--sheep.

SETTING IT STRAIGHT -- NSN NEWS DEC. 5

A story in the Wednesday, Dec. 3 paper incorrectly stated that Jonathan Wilkinson is running as the Liberal Party of Canada's candidate for Burnaby North - Seymour in the next federal election. In fact, Wilkinson is the federal Liberal candidate for North Vancouver.

Terry Beech is the federal Liberal candidate for the new riding of Burnaby North - Seymour in the 2015 election.

Yes, I am the Conservative party's nominated candidate for the new riding of Burnaby North - Seymour. Terry Beech is the nominated candidate for the Liberals and the NDP have not selected their candidate yet, but Michael Charrois and Carol Baird Ellan are announced nominees for that contest. No word on the Green Party's process, John any news?

Andrew Saxton's riding called "North Vancouver" has moved West taking over Pemberton Heights and Norgate from West Van, and giving up Seylynn and Seymour to the new riding. In that race Jonathan Wilkinson is the Liberal nominated candidate. I am not aware of a Green or NDP candidate in that riding.

North Shore Liberals running:

Pamela Goldsmith-Jones
West Vancouver–Sunshine Coast–Sea to Sky Country

Jonathan Wilkinson
North Vancouver

Terry Beech
Burnaby North–Seymour

North Shore Conservatives running:

John Weston
West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast-Sea to Sky Country

Andrew Saxton
North Vancouver

Michael Little
Burnaby North-Seymour

(Weird that all of the Tory photos look way younger than the last time that I saw them. Grecian Formula?)

North Shore NDPs running:

Am I surprised that the NDP doesn't even offer a list of candidates?

Better though, is what you get if you do a riding search for "West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast-Sea to Sky Country"

I hope that the NDP is donating to rabble.ca, because that seems to be the only place with a list.

Larry Koopman
West Vancouver–Sunshine Coast–Sea to Sky Country

And. Um. That's it.

Oh yeah - the Greens - nothing on their web site either.

Wikipedia says:

Ken Melamed
West Vancouver–Sunshine Coast–Sea to Sky Country

Haven't heard any news re: a Green candidate and they are notorious for parachute /last minute candidates for PR purposes anyway. I.E.; May 2013 Provincial election in NV-Seymour the green candidate put nothing in to his campaign and still took 1500 votes.

You didn't mention your position on the Kinder Morgan in the riding you want to win, so I assume we will consider your position the same as your potential future boss the Rt. Hon. Stephen Harper member for Calgary South West, Alta.

Barry Rueger said...

John - it's a given that if Harper "allows" you to run in his party you will never, ever have an original idea, and will do your Saxtonesque duty as regurgitator of PMO PR.

(Wow - a record - twelve refreshes of the CAPTCHA before I could read the damned thing)

Thanks for the info John and Barry,

Some of my comments on Kinder Morgan have been posted in the NorthShore News.

My position is simple, until they can prove that the clean it up and recovery technologies will be effective in our harbor, I will not be supportive of the project.

Rats. That should have read "prove that they can clean".

No Grecian formula yet Barry, I'm only 38.

I just retrieved this from my recycle bin: North Vancouver Conservative Association: UPDATE

Board:

Connie deBoer, interesting she was not even close.

Saxton writes:

"As the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Finance, it is especially reassuring to me to know we are making strong progress and are firmly on track to a balanced budget through Economic Action Plan 2015."

What has happened since?

You know.

That tells me that you will never support it.

Government is dysfunctional at all levels. Even if they had the technology to clean it up, it would still be a sh@t show. Rely on government to collect taxes and little else and you won't be disappointed.

Anonymous said...

Things are pretty good in Canada, as dysfunctional as our governments may seem to you, they are apparently better than most other governments in the world.

Anonymous said...

That "I'm OK Jack attitude" is not acceptable. So what if things are worse in other parts of the world. That certainly doesn't mean that we let down our guard to preserve what we have in Canada

If you don't like the government here, then move or do something about and run for office yourself. Just because your unhappy doesn't mean others are.

Usually stated with certainty by someone who has never travelled (much less lived) outside of the country. Well, except for Disney World.

Does anyone know or care about our Liberal Senator Mobina Jaffer? I rarely see or hear her name.

I was just responding to your "Government is dysfunctional at all levels" comment. Sweeping generalization are a waste of time in debate. On any given day, most areas of most of our governments function fairly well. Not all perfectly ever, but they are certainly functional. Mail ends up at the right house, the sewage is taken away, the Police respond safely to calls, the rain water is well managed, the roads are open and safe to travel, the Rec Centres and Libraries are open and engaging, the neighbor disputes are well managed by good policies and light interaction with the governments, clean drinking water is delivered, garbage is picked up while recyclables are managed, and our buildings don't fall down. These are the signs of good government. Yes Barry, I have travelled, and there are countless places in the world where the above benefits that we take for granted are not offered on a daily basis.

"Governments are dysfunctional at all levels" is childish, protest rhetoric that can be proven wrong time and again.

Thank you Anon 8:15 for a welcome dose of reality. Barry's adolescent pontificating represents some kind of fringe general viewpoint but shouldn't be taken seriously by thinking adults.

No answer about Sen. Mobina Jaffer.

If she's that irrelevant then the senate is an issue.

Anonymous said...

12:44, rather than coming here expecting someone to answer your off-topic question for you, why don't you get off your butt and look into it yourself? I'm sure if you contacted the Senators office yourself, you'd get all the answers you need.

Chillax...

With Mike Duffy's trial coming up in the Spring, the issue of the future of the Senate in Canada WILL BE an election issue.

That may be, but there's no excuse for laziness. You want answers? Search them out and don't rely on others to do your work for you. Our population is becoming as stupid and apathetic as our neighbours to the South.

Perhaps you speak too loudly Anon 6:36 Dec. 17.

Is it not the job of a campaign manager and committee and team to get the word out? Many questions and answers need to be "presented" to the electorate. They are in charge.

You call it laziness, it is accuracy in people checking out this blog to find out what is going on.
