IMHO, people who don't pay taxes to a particular level of government should not be elected to lead that level of government. I have no problem with First Nations representation I just think they should have to surrender their tax exempt status in order to truly represent the majority of a riding.

Sure she is entitled to be exempt under our laws. That is the problem with a two-tier system built upon race. It didn't work in South Africa and it won't survive over time here.
All Canadians, regardless of race and without exemptions, should be equal under the laws of Canada with identical rights and responsibilities.
If that were the case then race becomes a non-issue.
Racists are those that encourage singling out and division on the basis of race. The worst racists are those that want to perpetuate a race based system.
Well, as soon as our first nations (and other minorities) actually experience equality what you suggest might work. But you're deluding yourself to think that everyone is on an even playing field.
You're deluding yourself if you think that the rights and responsibilities of all Canadians are not protected by the Constitution.
I fail to see how our native people are on less of an even playing field than immigrants who may not even speak either of the official languages. Yet, the legal immigrants who enjoy equal rights and protection under the law somehow seem to raise families, find employment, contribute to their adopted country and flourish.
